In the early part of 1999, ISA Trading began a number of IT initiatives. This included the transfer of
their electronic commerce capabilities from their existing product based solution, provided by GEIS, to Itim's
Tradewind Internet Service Centre. The factors which affected ISA Trading's decision to investigate the
change were that they were unhappy with the levels of service provided and believed that the costs of bringing on
new trading partners and maintaining existing ones were high. ISA considered that the benefits of opting for a
service based solution were:
Cost |
Avoids the need for licence charges for software Eliminates the costs of EDI VAN mailbox charges |
Resource |
Avoids the need for in-house EDI expertise Avoids the need for partner roll out management |
Flexibility |
Tradewind offers any to any mapping facility, which assists with meeting the varied demands of trading partners and in-house integration New maps or changes to existing maps can be implemented quickly |
Speed |
Itim's expertise in electronic commerce can reduce the trading partner liaison timetable, from initial contact to live operation, significantly |
Since August 1999, ISA, through the Tradewind Service Centre, have set up electronic links to 30 Trading Partners including a major rollout to over 130 HMV retail outlets throughout the UK.
Satnam Panesar, Group IT Systems Specialist for ISA Trading, has welcomed the change to a service based solution for electronic commerce...
"We are pleased with the speed with which we have been able to expand our electronic network of trading partners. Once we identify the need to enable electronic links with a new trading partner, Itim do the rest, quickly and effectively."
